Awards

SEAI Award.jpg

On Thursday the 13th of November 2014, the Ballyliffin Lodge & Spa received the renowned SEAI Small Business of the Year award presented by the Minister for Energy & Resources Mr. Alex White at a special function in the Shelbourne Hotel.

This was as a direct involvement of Daigon by installing a complete Airthermal system to replace the Hotel’s oil-fired system. All heat for the Pool, Hot Water and Bedrooms is being produced by the new system and as a result is saving the Hotel, in excess of €55,000 per annum and 140 tonnes CO2.

This award was presented for the Hotel’s effort in reducing their running costs and pioneering a new way forward for similar business. Brian Motherway chief executive of Sustainable Energy Ireland said: “Communities and businesses all over Ireland are taking control of their energy issues, reducing their costs and exploiting local resources. Sustainable Energy is a great opportunity for Ireland. We have high ambitions in this area and this award ceremony is here to recognise the leaders that are making it happen.”

On Wednesday the 13th of November 2013, Daigon Ltd received the inaugural Brecan Mooney award presented by the Geothermal Association of Ireland in Kilkenny Hotel.

DaiGon’s entry was Wonder Years Childcare Facility in Rossbracken, Manorcunningham, Co Donegal. Heating in this warm and welcoming facility is provided by a 44Kw heat pump that transfers thermal energy from a horizontal array of closed loop pipes to an underfloor heating system.

The system is saving €12,000.00 and 20 tonnes of CO2 every year.

The owners Vincent and Marcella Mc Namee have suggested that this type of system should be installed in every Childcare facility to allow more focus on the needs of the children. In presenting the awards, John Burgess of GAI said The lower operating cost has helped businesses prosper during tough economic times, with heating energy costs reducing to a third of that offered by other technologies. There is a clear message coming through all these installations, in that the geothermal have helped sustain their business. This is true sustainability”
